Many officers choose to develop their interpersonal skills; some explore new ways of handling problem team members; others explore how to make a good team great. There are many options and the choice is up to the individual. How much time will be involved?Each coaching session is usually 2 hours long. Initially four sessions will provided for each officer. These will be spread over 6– 10 months, with a gap of 6 – 8 weeks between each. This is designed to give time for the officer to work on the skills and actions they tackle during the session. A single coach may see up to four participants in a single day. What do the sessions cover?The content of any particular coaching session will vary according to the needs of the individual. A participant may have some specific areas they want to work on, or they may have a general wish to improve their skills or results in just one part of their work. Frequently the insights achieved during the coaching process itself suggest other topics and themes that it would be useful to cover. The areas covered in each session are agreed between the participant and the coach, responding to the immediate circumstances and needs. Who will be my coach?Each participant is initially matched with a coach and undertakes an opening session to explore the areas they would like to work on. At the end of that session, they decide whether they would be comfortable to carry on working together. ConfidentialityCoaching is conducted on a one-to-one basis. Discussions between the individual and their coach are completely confidential. This builds a high level of mutual trust.
