Middle Management Development Programme

Tailor-made training delivered in-house for your organisation

This programme provides managers with the opportunity to develop new skills and to reflect on and consolidate their existing skills. New concepts are explored and related to real life examples the participants may have dealt with during their careers.

This development programme is designed for approximately 12 participants. It is structured as a series of modules, delivered at monthly intervals.

The initial two-day module is delivered by two trainers. It acts as a foundation module for the rest of the programme and provides a high degree of interaction and feedback. Each of the following modules is presented by a single trainer.

Module 1 – A two-day module

Day 1 - Effective Communication

The participants on this course will:

  • Increase their self awareness and understand the impact this has on relationships
  • Understand relationships and the importance of empathy
  • Increase their understanding of behaviour styles and their effect on communication
  • Recognise the importance of body language and other non verbal signals in communication

Day 2 – Influencing and negotiating skills

The participants on this course will:

  • Understand relationships and the importance of empathy
  • Analyse the importance of non verbal communication in influencing and negotiation
  • Enhance their listening skills
  • Develop their skills in seeking information and influencing
  • Consider what skills are needed by an effective negotiator
  • Learn when and how to close a negotiation

Module 2 – Skills to Support Professional Development

The participants on this course will:

  • Consider the adult learning cycle and factors that affect learning
  • Examine how information is processed and the implications for training and development
  • Reflect on the importance of motivation in a learning context
  • Discuss methods of identifying training needs
  • Consider the importance of diversity and team requirements
  • Improve their constructive feedback skills

Module 3 – Leading High Performing Teams

The participants on this course will:

  • Identify the competencies of High Performing Teams
  • Understand the impact of effective leadership on High Performing Teams
  • Examine aspects of situational leadership
  • Explore group dynamics and team development
  • Discuss factors that motivate people
  • Delegation and how to use your team effectively
  • Assess the role of communication on team effectiveness

Module 4 – Planning and Managing a Changing Environment

The participants on this course will:

  • Review approaches to change management
  • Understand resistance to change
  • Identify people’s needs during change
  • Consider a range of planning techniques for implementing successful change
  • Deal with conflict arising from change

Module 5 – Effective Stress Management

The participants on this course will:

  • Explore the causes and impact of stress at work
  • Understand ways of detecting stress in themselves and in colleagues
  • Practice practical techniques to defuse damaging stress
  • Look at common time management problems in the workplace
  • Devise appropriate strategies for improving time management
  • Consider techniques for prioritising at work

Module 6 – A two-day module

An Introduction to Project Management

The participants on this course will:

  • Get an overview of project management techniques
  • Understand the role of the project manager
  • Develop the ability to plan a project
  • Consider the decision making process in project management
  • Predict and manage project risks
  • Understand the importance of communication within and between project teams

Module 7 – Making an Impact

The participants on this course will:

  • Consider how to make a positive impact on an audience
  • Understand the needs and expectations of different audiences
  • Analyse different ways to get a message across
  • Prepare and deliver a presentation
  • Use visual aids and other props effectively
  • Learn how to encourage audience involvement
  • Practice handling questions effectively
  • Learn stress management techniques to increase confidence
